Holzer offers free Diabetic Self-Management Education Classes

Throughout 2024, Holzer Health System will continue to offer free Diabetes Self-Management Education classes. Lisa Mulholand, RN, Diabetic Educator at Holzer, leads this program and continues Holzer’s impeccable trend of raising awareness for diabetes and treatment measures. Lisa talks about this important program, saying, “Many secondary problems caused by diabetes can be avoided with small changes and lifestyle choices. Classes are offered free of charge and instructed by medical professionals, who provide tips regarding diets, medications, and treatments for diabetes. This information helps people make the best choices for their respective lifestyles. Also, individuals with pre-diabetes are provided with vital information that helps delay a Diabetes diagnosis. As always, knowledge is power.”

Diabetes Self-Management classes are available in Gallipolis, Athens, Pomeroy, and Jackson, Ohio. These classes are for anyone who has diabetes, or cares for someone who has diabetes. Classes are divided into three sessions, each taught by a specialist in that area. Session one is taught by a nurse diabetic educator and is based on diabetic self-care and management/complication. Session two, taught by a registered dietician, teaches individualized diet plans and carbohydrate counting. Session three, taught by a pharmacist, is based on physical activity and pharmaceutical information.

For more information or to register, call Mulholand at the Holzer Diabetic Education Department at (740) 446-5971. Schedules can be found online at www.holzer.org.
