Meet with Holzer's Occupational Medicine Team in Gallipolis and Jackson Ohio to promote health of workers through preventive medicine, clinical care and education. Services include acute injury treatment, drug/alcohol testing, workers' compensation, medical evaluation, and more.
Holzer Occupational Medicine’s primary focus is to promote the health of workers through preventive medicine, clinical care and education. The core services include employment testing to ensure a safe workforce and the treatment of injuries or disease sustained through the individual’s course of employment. Our goal is two-fold. Through employment testing our goal is to ensure a healthy workforce that can meet the physical demands of the job. We realize that accidents happen. After an accident, our goal is to return individuals to their highest level of function.
Goal Statement
We strive to provide employers throughout southeastern Ohio and western West Virginia with a healthy workforce through preventive care and, when necessary, individualized treatment.

At Holzer, we believe that quality healthcare and expeditious return to the workplace benefit both the employee and the employer. Interactive teamwork and mutual respect among employees, employers, medical professionals and rehabilitative agents are essential to meeting this commitment.

Occupational Medicine services were established at Holzer in approximately 1991. Since its inception, Occupational Medicine has worked closely with area industry to develop a rapport and provide employment screening/testing and injury treatment for their employees. In an effort to establish open communication and meet the needs of our customers, the Holzer Business Advisory Council, comprised of representatives of major employers in the area, was established in 1992. The mission of the Business Advisory Council is to help guide the efforts of Holzer’s Occupational Medicine Program. The Business Advisory Council meets quarterly in each of our three full service occupational medicine markets of Gallipolis, Jackson, and Athens.
Continuous Quality Improvement
Holzer is committed to continuous quality improvement. Holzer contracted with Ryan and Associates in 2010 to conduct a qualitative and quantitative assessment of Holzer’s Occupational Medicine Services. This assessment consisted of two focus group sessions representing 3700 employees and a subsequent telephone survey of 80 area companies representing more than 11,500 additional employees. Key findings of the analysis indicate the following:
Holzer’s Occupational Health is the market leader for work-related injury treatment during and after normal business hours.
Survey respondents indicated that Holzer’s Occupational Medicine program does “extremely well” in addressing their workplace healthcare needs.
In response to questions about employers’ satisfaction with Holzer’s Occupational Medicine program performance, employers rated Holzer above average. Positives mentioned include patients seen quickly, wide range of occupational health services, good drug screening program, and staff responsiveness.
Respondents described a genuinely effective partnership between Holzer and their company: sharing the same goals and metrics with mutual accountability, and having good two-way communications.
Respondents noted a key component to their satisfaction is that Holzer is familiar with their worksite environment and understands the challenges that they face.
Ryan and Associates indicated that Holzer has an opportunity to continue to leverage their long-standing relationships with employers to help them with problems beyond workers’ compensation management, e.g. reducing the demand for medical treatment, controlling health benefit costs, and managing short-term and long-term disability.
