Holzer Oncology Pharmacy Spotlight

The world of oncology pharmacy is one that very few are exposed to. At Holzer Center for Cancer Care, we provide a team of caring and highly trained individuals who are providing the best pharmacy care for our patients. “We go above and beyond for our patients,” shared Jared Vernon, RPh, BC SCP, Pharmacist, Pharmacy Infusion Services Supervisor, Holzer Health System. “Safety is the utmost importance to us in order to provide the best chemotherapy services for our patients.”
Oncology Pharmacy provides evidence-based, patient-centered medication therapy management and direct patient care for cancer patients, including treatment assessment and monitoring for potential reactions and interactions. “We have developed a great team at Holzer Center for Cancer Care, both within the pharmacy department and the Center, and work closely with the nurses and providers to ensure our patients are receiving the best treatments possible. Our patients are truly the center of all we do,” continued Vernon.
In 2019, Holzer Center for Cancer Care renovated our pharmacy area, upgrading all equipment to provide the safest environment possible for staff. “With this renovation, we have created a safe environment to create medicines for our patients,” shared Vernon.
Vernon joined Holzer in June of 2000 as an Inpatient Pharmacist. In 2010, he transferred to the Oncology Pharmacy Department. He is joined in the department with pharmacy technicians Casey Oxyer, CPhT, and Katrena Henry, CPhT. Both expressed appreciation of the team environment offered in the pharmacy oncology department. “The people I work with are great,” shared Oxyer. “I love my job and helping patients get better,” stated Henry. Both have been a part of the Holzer family for years, with Oxyer joining Holzer in 2008 and Henry in 2006.
“We are family taking care of family,” shared Vernon.
