Residents are encouraged to decorate their rooms with favorite personal belongings, such as quilts, pillows, and pictures.
The room rate at Holzer Senior Care Center is all-inclusive. No additional charges are made for personal grooming items or laundry service. The attractive solarium areas are always available for the enjoyment of residents, their families, and friends.
Social & Recreational Activities
Social and recreational opportunities at HSCC are carefully arranged by a qualified and experienced activities coordinator. Our activities program is designed to be therapeutic, with special attention given to the physical, mental, spiritual, and social needs of each resident. We make every effort to provide activities that are both meaningful and enjoyable.
There is something for everyone. Among our most popular events are games, crafts, sing-along events, religious services, picnics, and community outings. Each resident is encouraged to participate in whatever activities provide fulfillment and best serve his or her personal needs. Our solarium and courtyard areas offer quiet and restful environments to both individuals and groups.

Medical Support
Holzer Senior Care Center is a 60-bed facility under the direct supervision of a Medical Director, who helps provide the latest in high acuity care. Residents of HSCC may use the services of the center's medical director, or continue under the direct care of their own physician. A trained nursing staff is on duty 24 hours a day, every day.
Music Therapy
Holzer Senior Care Center now offers Music Therapy services to residents.
Music is an essential part of improving the quality of life. While music has traditionally been thought of as soothing, relaxing, and pleasant to listen to, Music Therapy uses music to help with rehabilitation in several ways. It can provide help with pain relief and make necessary physical therapy a pleasant experience and not a chore.
Music Therapy can improve speech in residents with speech problems through the use of rhythm and pitch exercises during singing. Recent neurological research suggests that singing uses parts of the brain other than the speech center, and music therapy can help retrain the brain's pathways to improve speech, even if that part of the brain has been injured.
Often, temporary improvement in memory and communication in dementias (including Alzheimer's) can be seen by having the resident sing familiar songs and then try to recall experiences related to the song.
Participation in the playing of musical instruments and composing songs can result in better resident cooperation in necessary physical exercise sessions. It also helps develop decision-making and socialization skills. Music Therapy uses music to encourage specific needed exercises, more socialization, and to improve activities of daily living. It does so in a pleasant, entertaining way.

Every 67 seconds, someone in the U.S. develops the disease. Alzheimer's is defined as the progressive degeneration of the brain that leads to dementia. Our goal at Holzer Senior Care Center is to provide a more heartfelt, compassionate, and hands-on care for our residents.
Holzer Senior Care Center utilizes the Allen's Cognitive Testing program for residents with Alzheimer's/Dementia to understand the resident's level of cognition.
The objectives when caring for a resident diagnosed with Alzheimer's or Dementia include:
- What factors contribute to challenging behaviors,
- What are the risks with utilization of mind-altering medications for residents with dementia,
- Describe general techniques for managing behaviors, and
- Identify the most common challenging behavior and ways to help.
All individuals are affected differently. Learning how the resident responds to the stimulants and his/her environment helps to provide the resident with a purpose and direction on which to focus.
