PGY1 Community Pharmacy Residency
Questions?
For questions about the residency program or application process, email nsearls@holzer.org or call 740-446-5366.
The Holzer Health System PGY1 community-based pharmacy residency is comprised of three independent Holzer Family Pharmacies located within Holzer Health System locations, and an ambulatory clinical pharmacy department with pharmacists embedded in primary care clinics. The residency offers a unique perspective involving ambulatory care and the impact on the health system.
Residents are involved with the office of graduate medical education and work closely with medical residents and students. The residency offers a management learning experience with ambulatory, retail and health system management opportunities where residents are responsible for developing and implementing ambulatory clinical pharmacy services to help offer high-quality patient care while overcoming the challenges encountered in a rural environment. Preceptors facilitate resident progress to be well-rounded ambulatory clinicians with a focus on transitions of care and chronic disease state management. Residents complete a teaching certificate through Marshall University with opportunities for classroom experience and onsite precepting. In addition, residents provide continuing education lectures, pharmacology didactic lectures to family medicine residents and medical students and group diabetes self-management education classes to the public.
