The mission statement for Holzer Family Medicine Residency Program is to provide highly dedicated, competent physicians who are committed to the philosophy of our specialty and who provide comprehensive care to individuals, whole families, and entire communities. Our curriculum is designed to graduate physicians dedicated to the enduring pursuit of excellence through continuing medical education to improve the quality of life in our communities throughout southeast Ohio and western West Virginia. Our graduates will balance the many demands of practice with the needs for their own individual and family health. Our graduates will be sensitive to the health needs and fiduciary responsibility of the rural communities and their patients who are underprivileged, underserved, and marginalized. Our mission aligns with the Marshall Community Health Consortium's mission to train competent primary care physicians who have demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and behaviors necessary to engage in autonomous practice in rural and underserved areas upon completion of the program.
Marshall Community Health Consortium
A key feature of our program is that it is sponsored by the Marshall Community Health Consortium, a subsidiary of Marshall University School of Medicine.

Osteopathic Recognition
The Holzer Family Medicine Residency program is currently pursuing Osteopathic Recognition by the American College of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Our program is directed by an Osteopathic Physician and endorses the use of Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy as a treatment modality.
As a part of our effort in pursuing Osteopathic Recognition by the ACGME, we are creating a hospital service line to be able to treat appropriate conditions of hospitalized patients.
Residents who have an MD degree are encouraged to attend Osteopathic-specific learning activities outside of Holzer and required to attend Osteopathic-focused lectures on a monthly basis.
